“The best things in life are three.”
– Daniel Ricciardo
Australian Formula 1 superstar, Daniel Ricciardo and one of Australia’s most esteemed wine brands, St Hugo are set to bolster their commitment to Ricciardo’s winemaking journey with the launch of DR3 the 3rd.
Led by Chief Winemaker, Peter Munro, the third collection has produced two exceptional new wines that resemble Ricciardo’s infectious and playful personality, whilst staying true to St Hugo’s ethos.
DR3 the 3rd x St Hugo Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 provides aromas of raspberry mingle with hints of bay leaf while elegant fine tannins dance with bright red fruits and hints of oak. DR3 the 3rd x St Hugo South Australia Shiraz 2021 is dark and brooding with masses of berry, pomegranate, and raspberry fruit.
“Three has always been a lucky number of mine even at a young age – so launching the third year of DR3 is particularly special to me. I’m so proud of the partnership we’ve created over the past three years, and we wanted to bring the people along the journey through the flavours of these wines,” Ricciardo said.
Inspired by the significance “three” has in Riccardo’s life – both on and off the track, DR3 the 3rd marks a milestone in his ever-growing partnership with the esteemed Australian wine brand.
Ricciardo continues, “There’s so much craftmanship that goes into winemaking, so I’m grateful for the creative control St Hugo have allowed me, after being so involved in the blending process over the past couple of years. I’m excited to continue sharing my love for a good blend and show you that the best things in life do come in three”.
“The 2021 vintage was exceptional. Good Spring rainfall set the vines up well for what was to become a very mild and dry ripening season. Paired with no significant rain, temperatures below average and only three days above 35⁰C in February and March, we had ideal ripening conditions which resulted in an extended ripening window,” Munro added.
For the first time, the Cabernet and Shiraz will be available in a range of formats with 1.5L Magnums, 3L Double Magnums and 6L Methuselahs with the opportunity for remarkable ageing.
Also launching into retail and on premise for the first time is Ric Red, part of the DR3 x St Hugo Wines brand family. Ric Red – Daniel Ricciardo’s ‘secret sauce’, an approachable red blend – will be available from April 2023.
Each of the limited-edition DR3 the 3rd x St Hugo come with a newly designed label and gift box, inspired by the sparks that fly off the Formula One cars racing around the track.
And now, an Aussie and their two mates can win the opportunity to wine with Daniel Ricciardo at the St Hugo Brand home in the Barossa. To go into the running, purchase any bottle of DR3 and tag @dr3wines on social. Competition closes on the 30th April 2023.
